Eva Moskowitz, the chief executive officer of the New York City charter school network, made the announcement Thursday in Miami, alongside Governor Ron DeSantis and Griffin, during an event at Florida International University. DeSantis signed legislation in June funding charters and allowing them to co-locate, or operate within public schools that have unused space.
Philanthropy Backing Miami’s Educators
Ken Griffin, founder of Citadel and Citadel Securities, continues to make Miami a focal point for his philanthropic efforts. At the event, he reinforced his commitment to Achieve Miami, an organisation dedicated to strengthening teacher talent and student opportunities in the city. His latest gift to the Teacher Accelerator Program builds on a $3.5 million donation he made a few years earlier.
“Each of us has a story of how a teacher has changed our lives,” Griffin said when announcing his initial gift. “I care deeply about bringing more high-quality educators into Miami classrooms to help ensure the children of Miami will continue to enjoy the impact of life-changing teachers.”
